Fertilizer Tips

  • Always measure each area exactly before working out the quantities required. An over application may cause damage to the turf by scorch or if you under apply any product, the results that you require may not be achieved.
  • Choose the type of fertilizer spreader subject to the area being treated. Rotary spreaders are quick and efficient but do not give the direct control available from a dropspreader.
  • Calibrate your spreader to make sure you are applying the correct amount of fertilizer.
  • Application of fertilizers should be done in 2 directions at half rate rather than one direction at full rate.
  • Always wash your fertilizer spreader out with water and leave to dry. This ensures it is clean and you have no residual product left in the hopper for your next application.
  • Do not overfill your fertilizer spreader and never fill or refill the spreader on the grass surface to be treated.

How to work out the actual units of NPK in kg/ha.

  • Example = 14:0:6 applied at 35g m²(which equates to 350kg/ha) provides:
  • N: 14 ÷ 100 x 350 = 49kg of nitrogen per hectare (10,000 m²)
  • P: 0 ÷ 100 x 350 = 0 kg of phosphorus per hectare (10,000 m²)
  • K: 6 ÷ 100 x 350 = 21 kg of potassium per hectare (10,000 m²)
