January & February Lawn Care

Its’ all too easy to forget about the lawn in the winter, but it still needs some care.

The Lawn will most lightly now be lying dormant and waiting for warmer weather to arrive. As the weather is too cold for grass growth, there is little that can be done to enhance its appearance.

However, some time can be usefully devoted to maintaining the soil. Spiking is a very useful operation to promote deep rooting and healthy grass growth in the Spring. However, remember to keep off the lawn when it is frozen or waterlogged.

Any remaining leaves that fall should be cleared off the lawn. During mild spells some worm casting may be noticed and these should be brushed away on a dry day. If any re-turfing work is required, this can be completed on mild days.

If you have a particular lawn problem, please feel free to ask a question in the Ask the Expert section, and we will get back to you with an answer.
