December Lawn Care

Its’ all too easy to forget about the lawn in the winter, but it still needs some care.

Whilst early frosts may temporarily stop the grass growing, it’s quite surprising how some growth can occur unexpectedly on mild days. Keep the grass “topped off’ with a sharp mower. If a rotary mower is used to cut the grass, it also serves the purpose of collecting any fallen leaves and other debris. Otherwise use a good rake to remove the last of the leaves. The leaves can be used to make excellent compost if collected and stored for next year.

If you are fortunate enough to have an automatic irrigation system installed in your garden, do not forget to drain the system down before winter. The predicted cold spell could cause irrigation valves and pipes to burst if the water is not drained away.

If you have a particular lawn problem, please feel free to ask a question in the Ask the Expert section, and we will get back to you with an answer.
